This Conditional Nature is a series of images that convey a feeling of isolation and loneliness of it's subjects. Subjects who work to serve the public in their everyday lives with little interaction between them and the people that they service.
The tittle of the project is a quote taken from the book 'Status Anxiety' by Alain De Botton. The quote refers to the role of workers whose duty it is to carry out a series of repetitive and sometimes monotimous tasks in their everyday lives.
The images show workers whose main role is to work behind the scenes of venues and workplaces that serve the public. However, the very nature of their job isolates them from the very people that they serve. For example, the Bowling Alley technician whose primary job keeps him locked away from the public in a backroom workshop repeatedly drilling different sized holes into various bowling balls. This can also been seen with the cinema worker in projection image. A cinema worker in projection from a small community cinema who has to monitor and watch the same film reel over and over again. Similarities are also evident with the Function room and Bus garage images, that show traces of other people's presence that seemed to have dissapeared and left us with the aftermath of a greater human presence.
