Closing Time is a photographic documentary of the closure of Pubs in Liverpool. The documentary consists of a series of over 100 photographic portraits of the pubs in the Liverpool landscape that have closed. Although the project is based in Liverpool it reflects a growing national trend of many major cities in the U.K Public Houses, once a focal point for industrial workers and the community in which they stood, have been replaced by clubs and wine bars to appeal to new office based workers and tourists.

The work represents the effect recession has had on local communities and businesses where the landscape of an industrial city, whose main source of income has changed from heavy industry to hospitality and tourism. The change in working patterns and social norms along with the growing trend of low priced alcohol in the many supermarket chains spreading throughout the city has affected the role of a Public House within the communities where they are located.

The portraits compare and contrast the similarities, characteristic differences and also different architecture, shape, size and different personalities that these fallen buildings possess. These differences illustrate the extent and effect these closures have had on their surrounding communities, depending on the period that they have remained empty.
